Ben

At last, something new! Half way through I had to put this one away for a very long time, trying to figure out why it wasn't working. To cut a long story short, I think it has turned out much better than I expected - I nearly gave up on it, like Miriam from the last post! In retrospect it would have been quicker to have simply started again. And strangely, when I compare it to my last large portrait of Steve, I think there are improvements particularly with colour saturation. I hope Ben likes it though - it will be interesting to know how an 8 year old feels about having his portrait done!

You are such a master Felicity! It is so gorgeous and I can remember when you only worked in pencil and those were gorgeous. Look at you now!

Thanks Teri, that's so kind of you! I do wonder whether I should work in both, maybe I should have a poll? But I'm enjoying the colour.

Beautiful! I think you should work in whatever you want to work in at the moment. I can't imagine having to choose.

I stand in amazement at your skill with capturing the essence of a person. It's almost as if I KNOW the people you sketch. You truly have a GIFT that has been honed into SKILL. Do both. . . color and pencil, choose whichever medium you want for each particular piece. I love color, but I love your drawings in pencil just as well.

You are amazing. Even though your work is detailed and careful, there is a certain simplicity and openness that shines through. Each portrait is like a lovely invitation to know the subject. I'm really in awe of your work.

This just glows! Beautiful job. And here's my advice on the question of polling people re what genres and mediums to pursue: don't do it. You're the one who decides what you want to do. Who are they/we to tell you how to conduct your art life!!
